Taking the High Road or the Low Road PDF Print E-mail

Life is full of choices whether we know it or not. There are small choices like what clothes we wear or what we order for dinner in a restaurant. Then, there are larger choices such as what car we purchase or what home we buy. There are even larger choices than that involving with whom we choose to have a long term relationship, whether we should have children, or whether we should get divorced or stay married. Most people would agree that these are the largest choices they are confronting in their lives.

There is an even larger choice than those stated above. That choice has to do with who you are being in life. Are you a person committed to higher values of honesty, trust, love, and doing what you believe is the right thing in life? Or are you a person who looks for the easy way out? Are you willing to bend the rules a bit hoping that no one will get hurt too badly? Are you willing to compromise on what you truly know is the right thing to do in your heart but it would currently require too much from you? Said another way, are you willing to be the author of the script in your play of life or are you the victim of someone elseÕs script? Are you playing your part but blaming others when things donÕt turn out your way? When you consistently donÕt get what you think you deserve or need, do you feel like the victim of life?

The above mentioned choice is a very powerful one, for it colors everything you do in your life. If you are being a person of high integrity who feels like you are generating your life, then you have the beginning of true power. If things donÕt go your way, you can be flexible and open to receiving new information. If you sell out on what your soul truly tells you it needs to be alive you become a victim in life. This low road has no power in it but may look, at times, to be an easier choice. I have come to believe it appears easier in the short run but is truly the harder choice in the long haul.

Becoming aware of two things is helpful here. One must become conscious of that little voice inside of you that always tells you what is in your highest interest. You could say that is your soulÕs connection to your higher power. Becoming aware of this inner conversation between you and spirit is the first step. Then it is important to learn how to trust this inner wisdom coming from your higher connection. The second awareness is that you have the power to shift which road you are choosing in life. With help from a spiritual consultant, lifestyle coach, or a trained person who has walked others through this inner journey, you will be able to embrace these distinctions. It will become clear to you how to listen inside. You will get familiar with the tools that enable you to shift from the low road to the high road. You can, in partnership with spirit, create a powerful and satisfying life journey.

If you take the time to get some assistance and you learn new skills, you will be able to choose the kind of person you would like to be in life. You will no longer experience life choosing you as being the victim of someone elseÕs screenplay. You and spirit will co-create a life worth living. This life will be an inwardly and outwardly rich and rewarding one. This could be you choosing the high road!
